What the hell was I thinking when I one clicked this-- how can a trilogy go from FIVE stars in the first book down to ONE??

I should have listened to my gut after book two bombed with me so badly, but I wanted to give the author another chance-- hell another one redeemed herself in my eyes this week, but yeah I pushed my luck too far.

Anyway, what I didn't like: Sara continues to be TSTL... the angst, the self caused drama, yadda, yadda, yadda, Chris morphs into some pussy whipped weenie, and the biggest offense:

The book ends as a cliff hanger.

Seriously. The third book in a trilogy doesn't have a nice bow on it to wrap up all the freakin' messes of the village idiots from the previous books. Yes, the questions were addressed, but throwing out something else as an ending with no closure that may be for a spin off really sucks becuase there's no way I will torture myself any further with these idiotic characters.

My only surmise is that it ended this way is because of the option to be featured on Starz as a show.

Banging my head against a wall. I want a do over.

I so much wanted to love this book. I really did. Hot Bikers. Steamy Sex. Alpha Men. How did I get let down? A whole lot of cheese, and a bunch of self caused predictable/unbelievable TSTL drama, and numerous typos (one even on the first page-- ugh), but none the less, I finished it for ONLY two reasons: the Hell's Knights with Jackson and Cade and the Heaven's Sinners with Spike who are all Alpha Bad Ass Bikers. Perhaps if the books focus was on them instead, it would have worked better for me-- that is what I was excpecting by the blurb as well as the title.

Instead, the main character was Addison who got on my nerves. Yes- she had a screwed up disturbing past, more screwed up than most and she was a survivor; but she was so hell bent on constantly trying to prove she wasn't responsible to anyone, let alone worthy of love. She gets so pissed when she thinks she's being judged for her mother's choices, even the word whore makes her see red, however Addison herself was so judgmental when she initially hopped the fence of the compound and saw the guys that make up the MC.
I guess knowing he is a biker, I expected a fat, ugly, smelly man with a beer belly. Not the handsome, well groomed man sauntering towards me.

Fine, give me some money, and I'll leave. I have something to do then (<-- should be THAN, but I digress) stand here with a bunch of scummy bikers.

WTF?!? She says their scum. In ear shot of the guys. And she wonders why not everyone is pleased she is there??? Not going to excuse the one wench, but at least that lady wanted everything and didn't disrespect the club. Even though she grew up with absolutely nothing, Addison is S-P-O-I-L-E-D.

Fair warning; this book does play the flip flop game of Past versus Present in every chapter-- which can be a bit draining.

It was a quick read though, I read it in under two hours.

I don't give many one/two stars when I review a book because I know how much authors, especially new authors, depend on their ratings. Even five stars are a rarity because it has to be special to me and I truly believe that the BETAs failed this author with the numerous spelling and grammar errors that abound throughout the book which should have been caught.

Will I read part two? YES! I hope that Bella Jewel's characters become stronger and more palatable (at least to to me), and should she need a better proof reader, hit me up, I'd be glad to.

Ren & Ally: I absolutely loved them! What a fantastic way to wrap up the series. KA will forever reign as one of my favorite authors and although I initially gave this a PERFECT AMAZING score, I reduced it after a short doze last night. Why the reduction? Simply, there were a few moments when it was OTT even for a Rock Chick. I felt that the Jane drama was unnecessary, and a bit self promotional. While it was a long book, I was a bit miffed when time would speed up, you know the 6 days later and 2 weeks later headers; I wanted to know what was going on during the warps-- I wanted to witness it. And call me a fan girl or groupie, but put me in contact with Annette and sign me up for the Rock Chick Tour!

I had a hard time... I L-O-V-E-D book one, so I was tremendously disappointed that I couldn't get deeply lost in this. The smexy times were still scoarching which bumped my rating up from one star to two, but Sara was TSTL and whiny, damn she was whiny- and I found myself rooting for her demise, which is not what I should be doing for the book's main character. Mostly, I felt sorry for Chris for having to be around her. They are both insecure and jealous and I wanted to smack both of them at various points and say, DON'T BE AN IDIOT, COMMUNICATE!!!

Maybe others will have better luck, just not my cuppa, I guess. I haven't made up my mind if I'll subject myself to book three.

I'll See You in My Dreams

Paperback, 282 pages
Published May 26th 2013
by: Sable Hunter

ISBN: 1482736519
edition language: English
series: Hell Yeah!

Date Read: from July 17 to 18, 2013

I'll See You In My Dreams is the fifth book in the Hell Yeah series, and unlike the others which seemed to follow a set guideline (find a sheltered virgin in her twenties that has issues of some sort and have her somehow meet a wealthy McCoy brother and they instantly connect and hump within hours of meeting one another and all move onto the Tebow ranch), this one was SOOO different. First off, the main H is NOT a McCoy. This story is about Zane, the McCoy family attorney and Presley, his secretary. Thankfully missing was most of the cheesy dialogue from the first three books, but most notably absent was the forewards that Ms. Hunter previously included which indicate that the books while in a series- yada, yada, yada, they could be read as a stand alone--you need to at least read the first book before starting this one.

There are a lot of back stories going on as well, and not necessarily a cliffhanger, per se, but there is a MAJOR unfinished mystery in this book which had me wondering why the author felt it was required. We are also introduced to another sect of the McCoy family that no one knew about. I am not sure when book six will be published--will I read it?? Probably so, but in all honesty, it's not something that I feel I HAVE to do. It was just too ehhh in my opinion.

Axel (Corps Security, #1)

Kindle Edition, 1st Edition, 283 pages
Published July 7th 2013
by: Harper Sloan
original title: Axel
ASIN: B00DU1GW80
edition language:English

Date Read: from June 30 to July 01, 2013

When you are with me I am free. My strength. My heart. My everything. Our love continues forever. Amor Vincit Omnia

Everyone has that moment in time that changes them-- when they meet that one person who will stay within their heart forever as their first love; the one person who is their everything with the power to make them a better human being with a simple breath or shatter them with just a word. And when your world does crumble, how do you pick up the pieces, especially when your chosen path seems to be the darkest of darks only to find yourself trying to escape hell and literally live?

Axel and Iz... Twists of past's fate tried to keep them apart, but once all the b.s. is set aside, nothing can conquer true love. There are some dark sides to this story including a lot of intense scenes of domestic abuse and glimpses of PTSD, yet there are the tender sweet moments that helped me deal with the ugliness. The depth of the characters... I cried and laughed throughout the book. I loved the supporting team in Izzy's life- every woman needs a girlfriend like Dee and a big brawny pseudo brother like Greg.

Along with his friends, Axel is pure Alpha Hawt, encompassing all that is testosterone which can make a girl swoon. I do want to say that I do have a soft spot for Beck, especially-- well just because I helped name him. *wink*

I was honored to read the ARC of Axel, kindly provided by the talented Ms. Sloan. With this being her breakthrough novel, she will go tremendously far. This series should be on your TBR shelf and when it comes out I will buy a copy because I think the author deserves it.

Saving Dallas (Saving Dallas, #1)

ebook

original title: Saving Dallas

Date Read: June 10, 2013

Let me preface this with the fact that I LOVE Alpha Men.. add in some tattoos and a bike, well instant wet panties.

Dallas Knox was a character that I could not stand. You know the kind that if they spontaneously combusted in front of you, you'd actually have to think really really really hard before even wasting a drop of your own spit to potentially save them-- yeah, she was it for me. I had a very hard time connecting to her.
Being five foot four with a body most people only dream of can get you a lot when it comes to men. Not to mention my long, silky brown locks, my perfect teeth, and a smile that would make the devil himself bow down.

Luke Carmical, oh Luke... totally Bad Ass, yet so beautifully tender.
I would move heaven and earth for you Dallas. I will spend the rest of my days making you happy. I have loved before, but never like this.

But their relationship is based on LIES ; She tells him that she was touched while she was sleeping during the break in, when she wasn't, OMISSIONS and a whole lot of CRAZY-- both main characters seem to be a bit bipolar. However with the cliffhanger style ending, you really don't find out the depth of Luke's lies; you are told that he was hired to protect her...but he does say he's a bad person.

Am I going to read the next two books to see if there really is any redemption in Dallas? Yes, because I love a bit of drama and non endings piss me off.

As others have pointed out, there are several areas that desperately need an editor's attention. Own is used when On should be and vice versa. Sense versus Since and Decoy versus Deploy... is it a bad read? No, but it could be so much better.

3.75-4 stars. I love Kristen Ashley. She has this magical way of making me want to be one of the characters in her books, even if I was just an extra; like a coffee shop customer in the Rock Chick sagas. She is absolutely the Queen of Alpha-Male characterizations and is one of the few authors in which I have read EVERY SINGLE ONE of her books.

This book was not like her other works... it's not that I didn't enjoy it, but where was the real drama other than the Lanie created crap? Even the sex, which is usually off the charts scorching, felt a bit flat (damn, now I have the commercials for Cialis and Viagra running through my head). I know that KA recently signed with a new publisher though, and I hope she remembers her old formula; it wasn't broke and it didn't need to be fixed.

ebook, 232 pages
Published April 20th 2013
by: Kendall Grey

ISBN13: 9780984887866

Date Read: NEVER EVER EVER

I am an avid reader that typically reads at least one book per day. Last year on Amazon, I spent well over $8k on books, JUST books. Price points on books don't faze me if I am truly interested. After seeing the author's opinions on her target readers for this series, I will never financially support her or her writings. She may consider herself a sell out, I just won't consider her at all.

I have been intoduced to several authors that once I like one of their stories, I will automatically read whatever they write, even if it's a genre I don't normally gravitate towards, including past books. Perhaps I may have done this in with Ms. Grey's "artistic" collection, but yeah, no thanks. This "motherfu¢ke®" as she graciously referred to all Goodreads members on Twitter, would rather support other authors who don't forget it is us readers, who love to get lost in their writings and not be insulted as we support them.

This book has been removed from my TBR shelf. I believe Ms. Grey should hire a PR person and assume a pseudonymous career if she wants to continue as an author, as she seems to be the current Lindsay Lohan of the literary world; hell bent on self destruction, at least in the Goodreads community

Finally!!!

Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11)

Kindle Edition, 544 pages
Published March 26th 2013
by: JR Ward

original title: Lover at Last
ASIN: B008BM4LZY
edition language: English

Date Read: March 26, 2013

For so long I waited for this book and JR Ward did not disappoint. I'll be the first one to admit that my whole purpose reading this was about the love story between Blay and Qhuinn. Focusing solely on their relationship, how many times did I get frustrated with both of them saying, "Damn it, quit it!!" A whole heckuva lot. I estimate that their romance consisted of only 50% of the book, so I imagine the remainder is the set up for book 12.

This book was about L-O-V-E with all capital letters, shouting from the roof tops. Yes, it was between two guys, and yes, they both were BAMF. Neither one thought they were good enough for the other which led to so many games (see above frustration).

Can I say how awesome Blay's parents were when he came out?

"I love you. You are my heart beating outside of my chest." I don't care who you are mated to, or whether they have blond hair or black hair, blue or green eyes, male or female parts- as long as you are happy, that's all I worry about. I want for you what you want for yourself. I love you, Blaylock- I love you. "

An earlier review I read slammed the intimate scenes between them being together because lube was not used -and according to them lube is always required for gay sex- however I think maybe that reader forgot that they're vampires. The portrait that JR Ward was able to portray... the scenes were smexy, smexy, smexy. There was jerking-off, topping, first time bottom deflowering, making out, escape sex instead of dealing with reality, a hot shower scene, oral delights, broken furniture-destroyed-room romping, simply put: PASSION.

Payne was truly a hero when she came in and was able to heal Layla and the pregnancy as well as Qhuinn unknowingly at the same time, because I do not think he would have been able to cope based on Phury's reprimands. Layla totally redeemed herself, where previously I could not stand her, when she actually considered Qhuinn's feelings during the miscarriage scenes.

"If any harm shall befall him, I will come after you, and find you where you sleep. I do not care where you lay your head or who with, my vengeance shall rain upon you until you drown."

The way Haver's treated her as her world was seemingly crumbling; I just wish that Qhuinn would have permanently taught him a lesson, what a sanctimonious SOB. When Qhuinn asked to touch Layla's stomach and then spoke to the baby, yep, there were sobbing tears because I saw that he recognized that he was capable to love.

The induction ceremony when Qhuinn's life became full circle, and when he accepted his true self and overcame his past were beautiful.

Qhuinn looked at each of the hoods again. How ironic, he thought. Nearly two years ago, an Honor Guard of black robes had been sent to him to make sure he knew his family didn't want him. And now, here these males were, come to draw him into a different kind of fold-- that was every bit as strong as that of blood.

To Blay: "You've always had me.. and my heart. My soul. Everything. I wish it hasn't taken this long for me to man up. That family of mine..nearly killed me. And not just thanks to that Honor Guard of theirs."

One thing that bugged me; where all the other shellans except Jane and the Queen, Beth? Xhex is there at the bar, but not supporting John Matthew. They were such a kick ass characters in their own right and I think deserved a mention, even if it was just following Qhuinn's ceremony or at the proposal. I also could have done without Assail/Sola and Trez/Selena-- I was confused about the back stories going on, but maybe that's for the future. I kept thinking "Hurry up and get back to my boys..."I also think that the Xcor/Layla relationship and sharing the baby with the Daddies Qhuay is going to be interesting-- you think your current partner doesn't like your past involvements? I can only imagine with mortal enemies. And what is with trying to frame Assail for shooting Wrath?? Stupid Xcor, ugh! I did miss the boys kicking Lesser ass though.

My thoughts on the future:
Queen Beth decides that she wants children and even though they don't outright discuss it, Wrath seems opposed to the idea. Maybe he is thinking of Wellsie?

Xcor gets another insider who tells him the way to the throne is not by killing Wrath, but rather by awaiting his first born. Because Beth is halfbreed, that means their young will be as well, thus according to Wrath’s own father the young cannot lead. In addition to the law that allowed Qhuinn to become a Brother, was this law modified as well?

RAID! Me

Raid (Unfinished Hero, #3)

Kindle Edition, 201 pages
Published February 27th 2013
by: Kristen Ashley

original title: Raid
ISBN13: 2940044346208
edition language: English

Date Read: February 28, 2013

I don't know how she does it each and every time. Kristen Ashley again penned another one of my favorites. How she intermingles so many of her kick ass series characters in almost each one; with glimpses of Knight, Creed and even the mention of the Nightingales along with Marcus & Daisy from Rock Chicks.

I never knew my grandma, but given the chance, Mildred Boudreaux with her marvelous personality is who I would pick. I loved how she just knew and threw out bits of wisdom without judgement.

"I know, child. What do you think is keepin' me on this earth? Not easy to let go that kind of love. That kind of love's got the power to hold you tethered to a world you should have left a long time ago."

Hanna wasn't perfect--kinda dorky and definitely a klutz--the cat food incident had me laughing out loud along with her many crazy conversations with Spot.

"The last time I matched my bike. This time, I matched my car..."

When Raid's PTSD reared it's very ugly head, good God, I wanted to kick his crap to the curb, but capturing that emotion, and being able to transcend it through a page, well that's what KA does fabulous.

In typical KA fashion, there's always a bit of drama; you just know that the Alpha's life is going to impact the girl, it always does. Like usual, the sex is off the charts hot, and while they do use a safe word, I did find that their "play" was actually pretty vanilla.

What prevents me from giving this 5 stars I that I wanted more. The scenes with the drama seemed anticlimatic and rushed. As a reader, I wanted to experience Raid being Raid as he avenged his woman, even if it made the book longer. Not saying KA did this, but I think that when authors try to strip something down to a magical set of pages, it truly pigeonholes the story.

The only minor thing that I don't like about KA's books is the covers. If I wasn't already a fan, they wouldn't draw me in-- just my opinion.

I'll be the first one to say that I pretty much detest reviews that start of with; "If you like (insert book title) then you'll like (insert book title)", however I cannot avoid it.

This book reminded me so much of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, albeit a shorter version and there are several fundamental differences, but the one most important similarity: the chemistry between the two main characters is off-the-charts-HOTT!!

The only minor thing that I didn't like was Ember's attitude when she felt her life went to shit (not putting in spoilers to point out when) and yes it was a big part of the plot, so it definitely wasn't an issue with the author, who quite effectively made me want to scream at Ember for acting like my hormonal teenager.

"What if I can never remember us?" She broke the silence and stilled him.
"Then I guess we'll have to fall in love all over again."
"How can you be so sure that's possible?"
"Because we're so fucking good at it."

All I can say is that if I am ever a widow, I sure as hell hope that my next lover is a vampire, because damn, between JR Ward and now Elizabeth Finn, they sure are a big part of my ultimate fantasy... sigh~ a girl can dream, right?

How many times can two people get a chance at true love?

What I loved about this book: *Callie-- her quirky fabulous fashion choices; if I could rock cotton candy colored hair, I so totally would. I L-O-V-E-D her the first 70% of the book, she seemed strong and fearless. *Joe-- biker, tattoo artist, a total saint; waiting patiently to acknowledge his feelings for Callie so many, many years. *The supporting characters-- Su, Dane, Saffron, Adam & Roman... all contributed to the plot so much.

What I didn't like: The book seemed to have a fast forward button. At one point it jumps days. The next is months and finally years. If the two main characters would just talk to each other so much drama could have been prevented-- which I guess is why the title fits. Callie was annoying in the last 30%; she knows that Joe had a past while she was with Nick, yet she runs.

To me, any book with "Shades of" in the title is a knockoff of well--you know, and ignoring the very very bad cheesy dialogue and the fact that it's in the first person (which bugs me tremendously if it's not very well written), it was just an ok book.

The cutesy names for her vajayjay left me shaking my head. I had 1970s porno Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow music playing in my head laughing to him referring to a Pearlette and her calling it a V8. She's 40 years old, a divorcée of two years and still reverts to kindergarten names for her hoo-ha, look I can do it, too!

Holy Crap, I loved it. The protection of family--whether it be by blood, bikes, or by the thin blue line. Ginny is what I strive to be- loyal, strong, and fabulously smart. I was drawn in and couldn't stop. Onto book two... yay! Some of the best lines:

“Maybe you have Rhys whipped enough to put up with your viperous tongue, but you talk to my other two like that again and I will drown your worthless ass. You got me, Barbie?” she hissed. The girl nodded her frantic agreement and Ginny released her with a shove and turned her furious gaze on Rhys. “Get that worthless skank out of my pool and out of my sight.” Shaking water off her hands, Ginny stood and brushed past Zeke. Everyone gawked as she disappeared back into the house, slamming the screen door in her wake.
************************************************************************************************************************

“You really are a delusional bitch. Let’s get a couple things straight, shall we? There is no you and Zeke. By your own admission, you climbed on top of him after he passed out and helped yourself. It is probably a blessing he has no memory of it because the thought of fucking you makes him physically ill. Secondly, if you would’ve had any clue that Mox was Zeke’s son, you would’ve played that trump card day one, not twenty years later. We took Mox into our home and hearts long before there was a legal reason to. We did it because of who he is, not who his sperm donor is. That said, let me see if I can make this clear to you.” Ginny’s hand shot out and wrapped around Flo’s scrawny throat as she closed the distance between them, pinning the older woman to the cooler. Her nails dug into the jugular and she leaned close to whisper, “You’re going to leave my family alone. You’re going to stay away from my husband and you’re going to stop hurting Mox. I have to hand it to you. You know how to twist words to your will. Your poisonous whispers almost worked at the hog roast. If you try your venomous bullshit with Mox again, I will rip your fucking throat out. Do you understand me?"

What the hell did I spend a couple hours on? Seriously, what I thought I was getting into was historical romance maybe with a twist of paranormal... but this was NOT it. Set in the present with cell phones to boot, there is a very needy/annoying/irritating Russian princess who really isn't, a couple of boat loads of Pirates, Poseidon the Greek God, treasures, curses, gifts, mixed in with abusive screwed up families and an ex wife. My only thought in this discombobulated mess was that perhaps, this was trying to be a blend of the entire POTC franchise set in the 21st century???

I am still trying to figure out how this book has averaged 4 stars, I feel VERY generous with 2. On the Smut Level: None. Other than the Pirate getting off on a little pain, this very vanilla book's risqué scene involves *gasp* doggy style and a couple of BJ's. There is a rape scene that is alluded to as well.

Yeah, this just wasn't for me.
